Notes The UK representative of Flying Lotuss Brainfeeder label sets the mood on FACT mix 372. Raised in Essex, Lapalux first came to our attention with 2011¢s Many Faces Out of Focus EP. Hes since become a fully-fledged member of Brainfeeder, sharing a label with the likes of Thundercat, Gaslamp Killer and Martyn where his musics gone from strength to strength. Although hes loosely associated with the UKs post-dubstep movement, Lapaluxs filter-heavy but hip-hop savvy sound has more in common with the electronic romanticism of more established artists like Bonobo and Daedelus, and his debut album Nostalchic, due on March 25, should see him established as one of that styles leading players. Lapaluxs FACT mix, sub-titled Lapaluxs Mood Mix is just a delight. Call us soppy, but weve always felt theres room for the chill-out mix to be revived, saved from the identikit hotel lobby horror-shows that the concept brings to mind (see Optimos Why Nobody Comes Back to Mine for the sort of antidote that were talking about), and with weepies by Sibylle Baier, slowed-down ballads by SWV and Beyonce, Lapaluxs own Flower and the none-more-smooth Machine Gun Funk, FACT mix 372 is a masterclass in setting a mood.
