Notes
London bass trio Dark Sky first caught our ear last year with a smattering of singles and top-notch remixes—the crew's rework of Kelis' "Brave" is still getting plenty of spins in the XLR8R office—and the momentum has kept building throughout 2011. Since being profiled in our Bubblin' section, Dark Sky has dropped the "High Rise" b/w "Armour" single on Blunted Robots, and next week will see another high-profile offering, the Radius EP on 50Weapons. Although the group's discography is still relatively short, Dark Sky has proven adept with a varied sonic palette, one that includes serene melodies, cut-up R&B snippets, thundering organic drums, and thick bass sounds underpinning the entire operation. On this exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast series, Dark Sky manages to visit all of those corners on the musical map and more, sticking heavily to freshly released selections, including a healthy dose of the group's own productions. We're expecting plenty more from this youthful UK trio in the months and years to come, but right now, it's fairly undeniable that Dark Sky has gotten off to an excellent start.
