No matter how you feel about cumbia digital, there's no denying that Buenos Aires' ZZK crew knows how to hustle. Constantly touring the globe and birthing new music, the Argentinian posse's latest release is Rio Arriba, the second full-length album from Chancha Vía Circuito (a.k.a. Pedro Canale). Known for his deep, loping rhythms and modern explorations of traditional folkloric Latin sounds, Canale has followed a similar path on this exclusive mixtape, which he's entitled Los Pastores. Stocked with tunes from his ZZK compatriots, not to mention several choice selections and remixes from Canale himself, the mix relies heavily on organic sounds, particularly thick, clattering drums and percussion. It's a hypnotic formula, and one that can be witnessed live beginning tonight, as ZZK is kicking off its North American summer tour in New York and traversing the continent over the next couple of weeks.
